In 2018, BMW released a new generation of the BMW X5 (G05). The crossover prototype was clearly disguised.
The third generation of the BMW X5 with the working designation F15 has been on the market since 2013, five years later a new generation comes. Of course, the Bavarian specialists have successfully changed the appearance of the SUV, albeit too unobtrusively, but the real innovations are hidden under the hood.
The new BMW X5 is based on the CLAR platform
At the heart of the new BMW X5 is a new platform that until recently was known as 35up and is now called CLAR (cluster architecture). In the future, new BMW models from the 3a Series to the BMW Series, including SUV models and the new BMW X7, will be built on this platform. Thanks to lightweight materials such as aluminium, magnesium and carbon, the vehicle’s weight is significantly reduced. The dimensions have grown a little, besides, there is a 48-volt network on board. The BMW Series chassis will also be used in the X5.
BMW X5 (G05) will not have a three-cylinder engine
In terms of powertrains, BMW will bet on four, six and eight cylinder engines in the X5, if you’re looking for a three cylinder, then it’s not here. Of course, you will find it in the following models: BMW X5 xDrive 50i (462 hp), X5 xDrive 40i (340 hp), X4 sDrive 40i (340 hp rear wheel drive), X5 XDrive 30i (252 hp). And the diesel models are respectively X5 M 50d (400 hp), X5 xDrive 25d (231 hp), X5 xDrive 30d (265 hp) and BMW X5 xDrive40d (320 hp). -in the X5 xDrive40e version (with an autonomous range of only 100 km current), there will also be an M version with over 600 hp.
BMW X5 costs several thousand euros more
Currently, petrol versions in the BMW X5 range with 206 hp. X5 35i will cost 66,400 euros. Price for 50i with 450 hp from 85 400 euros. The top-of-the-range BMW X5 M50d diesel is priced at €91,390, the base X5 25d is €59,800 and the xDrive with all-wheel drive is €65,900. We expect price increases of at least 2000-3000 euros.
Visually, the new BMW X5 remains true to its concept, but the design will be much more impressive, the C-pillar should give the crossover some dynamism. By the way, it retains a separate tailgate, in which the window element can be opened and the sheet metal lid can be lowered.
The biggest change is yet to come. The kidneys grew by about 20 percent. By the way, the new BMW X5, like all BMW X models, is produced at the American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The premiere of the BMW X5 will take place at the Paris Motor Show.
